Reflecting on Six Months of Growth: Lessons from Our First Year in Business

Introduction

It’s hard to believe that six months have flown by since we opened our doors here in North Wales. As a small business in our first year, every day has been a learning experience. We wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey so far, share what we’ve achieved, and look ahead to what’s next.

Our Journey So Far

My husband is ex-military with over 25 years of experience in the Security Industry, having worked extensively across the UK and overseas. He has worked a vast variety of places from pubs and nightclubs to active combat (his CV of stories is another blog entirely, possibly even a book). After he moved up to North Wales two years ago, we decided this year to establish our own business. Our mission is rooted in professionalism, quality of service, and an unwavering commitment to safety. As we mentioned in our previous blog about military history, these values run through every aspect of our operations and are reflected in the calibre of staff we employ.

I bring a strong background in staffing, administration, data analysis, and graphic design—skills that have been invaluable in setting up and managing the business. From streamlining processes to creating a professional brand identity, these areas ensure our operations run smoothly and look polished. Combined with my husband’s extensive operational experience (boots on the ground), our expertise perfectly complements each other, strengthening the business and enabling us to deliver a service that is both efficient and exceptional.

From our very first project to building relationships with local clients, these months have been full of exciting challenges and rewarding successes. We have grown from strength to strength and can see a bright future ahead. We’ve expanded our offerings, refined our processes, and learned how to adapt quickly to meet client needs.

Proud to be Welsh

We are proud to be Welsh—my husband hailing from South Wales and myself from North Wales, where I speak the language fluently. These roots shape who we are and the values we bring to our business: resilience, community, and integrity. North Wales has long faced challenges with limited job opportunities and underfunded amenities, yet it remains a place of remarkable creativity and entrepreneurship. People here never give up—they adapt, innovate, and keep trying new things. We strive to reflect that same spirit in everything we do, building a business that champions professionalism while staying true to our heritage. Protecting our Welsh heritage, including the language, is a priority for us. It is well known that’s there are specific challenges relating to the Security industry with recruitment and ensuring candidates meet language requirements. We always try our best to prioritise the Welsh language in our recruitment, providing other essential skills are also met. We also actively support those who want to learn.

Lessons Learned

One key lesson has been the importance of listening closely to our customers and staying flexible. Every challenge has taught us something valuable. We’ve learned that the best way to run a service-based business—especially one where staff are working across multiple locations and venues—is to show up and be present. Managing clients and ensuring satisfaction is vital. At the same time, we make sure our team is supported and empowered to carry out their duties to the highest standard. By being hands-on and proactive, we create a culture of accountability and care that benefits both our clients and our staff.

Looking Ahead

Our goals for the next six months to a year are clear: to network, expand, and grow. We want to build on the strong foundations we’ve laid and turn them into a thriving, sustainable business. This journey is just beginning, and we’d love for you to be part of it.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all our clients—past and present—for choosing to work with us. Your trust and support have given us the chance to grow and develop our business, and we’re truly grateful for every project and partnership. Without you, this journey wouldn’t be possible, and we look forward to continuing to deliver the high standards you expect.
